Good Fundamentals, The Confidence Builder
Today, I wanted to share about a memorable experience that still lingers in my mind. It was the moment she looked me up and down and said no. The rejection hit me hard, as it was the first time I had ever been rejected when asking someone to dance with me. Questions flooded my mind – did I approach her in the wrong way? Was I not confident enough? Did she see me dance before and think I wasn't up to her standards?
Reflecting on that moment, I realized that at the time, I had only been dancing salsa for five months. I was still a beginner, and it was unfair to expect perfection from myself. However, that rejection became a turning point for me. I made a vow to myself that I would never experience that kind of rejection again.
To achieve this, I made a commitment to take salsa classes three times a week. I even pushed myself to dance every day if possible. It was a promise I made to myself, a promise to become better, stronger, and more confident. It wasn't an easy journey, but over the course of one year, I gradually gained the confidence I needed and mastered the fundamentals of salsa.
Throughout this process, my dance teachers always emphasized the importance of practicing the basics every day. They understood that the fundamentals were the key to achieving success in my dance goals. Those words inspired me to focus on honing my skills and perfecting my foundation.
Looking back now, I can proudly say that I have come a long way from that rejection. It was an experience that pushed me to work harder, to never give up, and to constantly seek improvement. The rejection, as painful as it was, became a catalyst for growth and resilience.
So, today I share this story as a reminder of the journey I embarked on after that rejection. It serves as a testament to the power of determination and the impact of embracing and mastering the fundamentals. I hope that in the future, when faced with challenges or rejections, as a student, you will always remember to use them as stepping stones towards your goals.
